How did India perform in Tokyo?
India had a remarkable performance at the Tokyo Olympics, clinching an Olympic medal in hockey after a 41-year gap. Under the leadership of Manpreet Singh, India secured a bronze medal by defeating Germany 5-4 in a thrilling match. Despite trailing 1-3, India staged an impressive comeback. Goals from Simranjeet Singh (2), Harmanpreet Singh, and Rupinder Pal Singh ended India's long wait for a hockey medal on the grandest stage. Reflecting on this achievement, Manpreet described it as the most special memory in his illustrious career.
"It was an unbelievable feeling to win the Bronze medal at the Olympics; that had always been my dream since I started playing for the national team. I felt immensely proud when we finally clinched an Olympic medal in hockey after 41 years. It is a significant achievement and will always remain close to my heart," Manpreet said after the post-match presentation.
India are presently ranked fourth in the FIH rankings, with Belgium (2nd) and Australia (5th) as the only teams from Group B in the top five. India will compete in all their group-stage matches at Stade Yves-du-Manoir in Paris.
