Suryakumar Yadav opens up on his preferred batting spot, says 'I have enjoyed myself most when..'
Team India is gearing up for the upcoming T20 World Cup which is slated to kick off from October 16 in Australia. The star-studded Indian batters are desperate to fire at the marquee tournament and win the coveted title for India.
Meanwhile right ahead of T20 World Cup, India's flamboyant batter Suryakumar Yadav has opened up on his preferred batting spot and said that he would love to come in at number 4 and bat for the team.
Having been tested in almost every batting position Suryakumar has seen it all in the bare minimum time. He has played as a floater in the IPL and has also opened for India during the tour of West Indies recently. He was also tried at number 4 during the just concluded Asia Cup.
The 32-year-old told Times of India that he loved batting in every position but he feels that the No.4 spot is the best one for him.
“I have loved batting in every position: 1, 3, 4, 5. I feel that No.4 is a good position for me. The situation that I go into bat allows me to control the game. I have enjoyed myself most when I bat between overs seven and 15. I try to be positive in that phase,” said Suryakumar.
Suryakumar also said that the most important time in a T20 game is between the eighth and the fourteenth over.
“I have seen a lot of games where teams have a great powerplay and a strong finish, but I feel the most important period in a T20 game is from the eighth over to the 14th over. You need to press on the pedal harder in that phase. I try not to play too many risky shots,” said Yadav.
The Mumbai Indians' star batter Suryakumar is known for his flamboyant yet unorthodox shots while playing but said that he always tries to target two perfect positions while batting.
“I try to play over cover and try to cut through point, run hard and keep the scoreboard ticking so that after the 15th over the finishers don’t have issues finishing the game. No.4 is also a challenging position to bat which is why I enjoy it,” Suryakumar further added.
