Former England captain Kevin Pietersen reacted to Pakistan’s humiliating maiden Test defeat against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi on August 25. Pietersen expressed his disappointment to what transpired on Day 5 as he believed that the country has tremendous talent when he played the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
“What happened to cricket in Pakistan? When I played the PSL, the standard of that league was tremendous, the players had a very good work ethic and the youngsters on display were magic. What’s happening there?,” Pietersen wrote on X.
Pietersen played 27 matches for Quetta Gladiators. He scored 611 runs from 25 games at an average of 26.56 including four half-centuries.
Earlier, former England captain Michael Vaughan reacted to Bangladesh’s maiden Test win over Pakistan.
“What a great win for Bangladesh .. !! high quality performance .. Pakistan really are in a mess,” Vaughan wrote on X.
Why Abrar was rested?
Meanwhile, Pakistan captain Shan Masood is under scrutiny for team selection as he left out spinner Abrar Ahmed and picked four seamers. After the loss, Masood expressed that the pitch did not play the way he expected it to be. He also revealed that Abrar did not play as Aamer Jamal is injured who is a decent batter down the order as well.
Raja lashes out at Masood
Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja targeted Masood and said that he can be dropped too.
"Shan Masood needs to first bat well and then show his knowledge of the game a little because he is decently experienced as far as captaincy is concerned. He captains in county cricket and has captained his team in the PSL. I couldn't understand on what basis he thought that if you leave grass on the Pindi pitch in August, the ball will swing a lot," he said (4:30),” Raja said on his YouTube channel.
"Firstly, he has to take the correct direction. It was a massive faultline from the selection point of view. His batting has gone down. He is not Mike Brearley or a great captain that he will continue to have a place even if he keeps scoring zero. He needs to pull his batting up," he added.
