Story Highlights:

Asia Cup will start from September 9.

India will face UAE in their Asia Cup 2025 clash.

Former India selector Devang Gandhi explained why Shubman Gill will be Suryakumar Yadav's deputy in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, which will start from September 9. Test captain Gill was appointed India's vice captain of the white-ball teams after the Zimbabwe series, after the T20 World Cup 2024. The stylish batter also led India in a three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe just after Rohit Sharma retired from the shortest format of the game.

Shubman was also appointed India's vice captain in  Rohit Sharma-led ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad, where the unbeaten Men in Blue defeated New Zealand in the final to win the title.

A few days before the selection meeting for the Asia Cup, Devang reminded everyone of the reason behind Gill's absence from the T20I team. "Don’t forget that he was not dropped when India was playing T20 cricket in South Africa towards the end of the year, a series India won 3-1. He was rested after the New Zealand series in India as the team was about to embark on the tour of Australia, and after his immense success in the IPL as a player and captain, everything suggests he should be the vice-captain in the Asia Cup," he told The Times of India.

If Shubman returns in India's squad for the Asia Cup, then one batter will surely lose his place. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will announce India's squad for the Asia Cup 2025 on August 19, followed by a press conference by chief selector Ajit Agarkar and skipper Suryakumar Yadav.  Sports Tak earlier reported that the pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has also confirmed his availability for the mega event.

Team India will start their Asia Cup 2025 campaign against the UAE on September 10 and the high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan will take place on September 14, both matches will take place at Dubai International Stadium in Dubai.
