Legendary India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar shared his take on people calling for the match between India and Pakistan to be boycotted. There have been a lot of discussions on whether the match should take place or not ever since it got announced. This is due to the fact that the political tensions between the two countries reached new heights earlier this year and relations between them deteriorated to an all-time low.
It all began with the Pahalgam terrorist attack which saw 26 innocent Indian people lose their lives. India then decided to launch Operation Sindoor as a retaliation and unleashed attacks to dismantle terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan. It was due to this that many were against the idea of India and Pakistan facing each other in a cricket match and even wanted it to get boycotted.
However, Gavaskar stated that the government has already given their call on the match and added that even though he understands people's feelings regarding the matter, the BCCI and Indian players are just following the government's guidelines.
"It doesn't matter what anyone will say about it now as our government has decided that the match will go ahead as planned. The players and BCCI also have to follow government's guidelines. I can understand the people's feelings but the government has already taken the decision on this matter," Gavaskar told Sports Tak in an exclusive interview.
India's stunning performance against UAE
Meanwhile, India come into the match against Pakistan after obliterating UAE in their previous game of the Asia Cup. The Men in Blue absolutely dominated on both the batting and bowling fronts, eventually winning the match comprehensively by a 9-wicket margin. They first bundled out the hosts for just 57 runs before going on to chase the modest target in 4.3 overs.
This victory saw them not only move to the top of Group A, but also saw them record a brilliant net run-rate of +10.483. If Suryakumar Yadav & Co. win their upcoming match, then they will move into prime position to qualify for the Super 4 stage.
