India's star all-rounder Washington Sundar has signed with Hampshire County Cricket Club for the final two rounds of the County Championship. The 25-year-old joins the team in the middle of the Asia Cup, where he is currently a standby player for Team India. Sundar is not traveling with the main squad to the United Arab Emirates and will only be called up if a replacement is needed.

Sundar's stint with Hampshire will begin with their match against Somerset at the Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton, from September 15 to 18. He will then play against Surrey from September 24 to 27. This marks his return to county cricket after playing for Lancashire in 2022 in both red-ball and white-ball formats.

In an official statement, Hampshire Director of Cricket Giles White welcomed Sundar and said that the star all-rounder will have a key role in the upcoming games against Somerset and Surrey.

"We’re delighted to bring Washington to the club for the County Championship. He had an excellent series against England this summer and he’ll play a key role with two big games coming up against Somerset and Surrey," Giles White, Director of Cricket, said in an official statement.

Washington Sundar recently played a crucial role in India's Test series against the England National Cricket Team, helping the team level the five-match series 2-2. The 25-year-old all-rounder was a key part of the team management's plans, featuring in four of the five matches in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. He was not selected for the series opener but was included in the playing XI for the rest of the series.

With the bat, Sundar had a successful series, scoring 284 runs in eight innings at an impressive average of 47.33. His performance was highlighted by a match-saving century at Old Trafford in Manchester. With the ball, he took 7 wickets at an average of 38.57, with an economy of 3.64 and a strike rate of 63.57.

Talking about India's Asia Cup campaign, the Men in Blue registered a handsome nine-wicket win over United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the Group A match on September 10. India will next face Pakistan on September 14 before locking horns with Oman on September 19.
