Punjab Kings shared a social media post in support of Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas was not included in India's squad for Asia Cup

India's squad for Asia Cup 2025 was announced by selection committee chief Ajit Agarkar through a press-conference on Tuesday. Shreyas Iyer failed to find a place in the 15-member squad despite having a stellar campaign with the bat for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in IPL 2025. This became one of the major talking points from the conference with fans expressing their displeasure over the 30-year-old's snub from the squad.

Shreyas, who was PBKS' captain during the season, played a massive role in the side reaching the final of IPL 2025. The batter finished as the team's top-scorer with 604 runs from 17 matches. He maintained an explosive strike-rate of 175.07 and recorded six 50+ scores in the campaign.

However, this sensational IPL season also wasn't enough for Shreyas to get a spot in the squad for Asia Cup. Now, PBKS has come out in support of their skipper and shared a 3-word post on social media in support of the 30-year-old simply stating, "trust the process." The post ended up making rounds on social media.

Shreyas hasn't played for India in T20Is for over a year

Meanwhile, the snub from the Asia Cup squad means that Shreyas' wait of making it back to the T20I set-up continues. The batter's last appearance for the Men in Blue in the shortest format came in December, 2023. He has so far represented India on 51 occasions in T20Is, scoring 1104 runs and maintaining a strike-rate of 136.12. He also has eight 50+ scores under his name in the format alongwith the highest individual score of 74*.

On the other hand, India will begin their Asia Cup campaign with the clash against UAE on September 10. They will then be locking horns against arch-rivals Pakistan on September 14 before concluding their group stage with the match against Oman on September 19. Suryakumar Yadav & Co. will definitely be aiming to win the coveted trophy for a record 9th time in their history.
