Sri Lanka's squad for the T20I series against Zimbabwe has been announced

Wanindu Hasaranga will miss out of the three-match series, starting from September 3

Sri Lanka have revealed their T20I squad for the upcoming three-match series against Zimbabwe which will start right before the Asia Cup 2025. Former World no.1 T20I bowler Wanindu Hasaranga is a notable absentee from Sri Lanka's T20I squad. The star all-rounder Hasaranga sustained a hamstring injury during the T20I series against Bangladesh in July, and his continued omission from the 17-player squad has raised concerns.

The T20I series against Zimbabwe concludes just before the Asia Cup begins on September 9. Hasaranga's continued absence from international play since early July puts his participation in the eight-team tournament in the UAE in doubt.

With Wanindu Hasaranga sidelined, Sri Lanka will rely on Maheesh Theekshana and Dunith Wellalage to lead their spin attack during the T20I series against Zimbabwe. Both players have been included in the 17-player squad to fill the void left by the star all-rounder.

The squad also features the return of fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana, who was not selected for the two ODI matches. Experienced all-rounder Charith Asalanka will captain the team for both the white-ball series. The bulk of the T20I squad consists of seasoned players like Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, Kamindu Mendis, and Dasun Shanaka, all of whom have a strong track record in white-ball cricket. The tour begins with the first ODI on August 29, followed by the T20I series, which is scheduled to start in Harare on September 3.
