Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the India squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 in United Arab Emirates (UAE). Virat Kohli has made a comeback into the T20I team after taking rest for the five-T20I series against West Indies.
India will take on arch-rivals Pakistan in their campaign opener on August 28 in a bid to avenge their World Cup 2021 loss. The defending champions will then take on one of the two qualifiers from Asia Cup 2022 qualifiers which will be played from August 20 to August 26.
Jasprit Bumrah is missing from the Asia Cup squad as he is not 100 per cent fit. He sustained a back injury and will be doing his rehabilitation at National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru. Harshal Patel is missing from the squad as well as he is yet to recover from rib-injury. Harshal will also be at NCA with Bumrah. In his absence, Avesh Khan has been included in the squad.
Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and Ishan Kishan are the notable omissions from the squad. However, Iyer, Patel and Deepak Chahar have been named standbys for the tournament.
