Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of Asia Cup 2022 due to back injury

India’s pace bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of Asia Cup 2022 in United Arab Emirates (UAE). Bumrah has injured his back and the board has taken the decision to not risk his fitness with T20 World Cup in Australia later this year.

"Jasprit Bumrah has a back injury and will not play in the Asia Cup. He is our main bowler and we would like him to be back in action before T20 World Cup. WE can't risk him in Asia Cup and the injury could aggravate," a senior BCCI official told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

Bumrah will be rehabilitating at National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru, before he makes a comeback for the home series against Australia and South Africa.

Currently, the speedster is spending time with his family in US.

Bumrah’s absence is a big setback for India as they were expected to field a full-strength side in the Asia Cup. Also, Harshal Patel’s injury may lead to his absence, which will have an impact on India’s death overs bowling.

Bumrah played his last T20I against England earlier this month. He featured in the ODI series as well where his fifer led to England’s record collapse. He was rested for the recently-concluded limited-overs series against West Indies which India won comfortably.
