Former India captain and maverick batter Virat Kohli received a special gift from the Hong Kong cricket team after the Men in Blue registered a comfortable 40-run win against the associate team. Kohli, who is regarded as the best batter of this generation, received a Hong Kong team jersey with a very special message written on it.
"Virat, Thank you for inspiring a generation. We stand with you! There are many incredible days ahead. With strength. With love. Team Hong Kong," the message on the jersey read.
Reacting to this gesture by Hong Kong, Kohli shared a photo of the jersey on his Instagram story and thanked the opposition for the 'humbling' gesticulation.
"Thank you @hkcricket. This gesture is truly humbling and very very sweet," said Kohli.
On the batting front, the 33-year-old found some rhythm during his knock against Hong Kong on August 31 (Wednesday). The right-handed batter scored an unbeaten 59 runs in 44 balls with the help of one four and three sixes.
However, the protagonist behind India's win on Wednesday was Suryakumar Yadav, who turned several heads after his spectacular innings. The middle-order batter played a sizzling knock of 68 runs off 26 balls. During his innings, the 31-year-old smoked six sixes and as many fours.
Courtesy of the win against Hong Kong, India became the second team to qualify for the Super Fours stage after Afghanistan.
