Rohit Paudel, the captain of Nepal's cricket team, exuded confidence as his team prepared for their debut appearance in the 2023 Asia Cup. Placed in Group A alongside hosts Pakistan and cricket giants India, Paudel believes his team can hold their own against the formidable opponents.

"For the first time, it's a big achievement for all of us," Paudel stated during the pre-tournament press conference. Expressing a commendable spirit, he emphasised the team's determination to provide strong competition to both Pakistan and India, recognising their opponents' prowess. While acknowledging the experience gap, Paudel commented on the comparable skills of the teams in terms of batting and bowling.

Paudel cited experience as the key distinguishing factor between his team and Pakistan. He acknowledged that Pakistan boasts a wealth of experience, yet he remains confident that Nepal's performance won't be overshadowed.

"The difference would be the experience. If you count on skills, both batting and bowling are the same (for both sides). But, if you count on experience, Pakistan is an experienced side. Both the teams have world-class bowlers and batsmen. Our focus is to win one ball (at a time), regardless of who the opponent is," he added.

The journey leading up to the Asia Cup has seen Nepal participate in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers and the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup. Paudel noted that these platforms have served as valuable preparation, offering his team competitive exposure.

The skipper also acknowledged the high expectations from fans and the significance of representing Nepal at the highest level. "All Nepalese have been dreaming for this Asia Cup," he shared. Paudel emphasised the magnitude of the occasion, expressing that it's a historic opportunity for Nepal to make their mark in the cricketing world.

As Nepal's cricket team sets foot on the grand stage of the Asia Cup, Paudel's confidence and determination mirror his team's spirit, ready to embrace the challenges and seize the moment against cricketing powerhouses Pakistan and India.
