Ruturaj Gaikwad, India's star opener in the Ireland series and their Asian Games squad's captain, has seen a commendable jump of 143 positions in the T20I rankings. This elevation came on the back of his sterling half-century during the second T20I against Ireland, where he notched up a career-best 58 runs, propelling India to a solid 185 runs. Positioned at 87th after this leap, Gaikwad is all geared up to further capitalize in the final T20I on Wednesday, 23 August.
However, Gaikwad wasn't the only Indian cricketer to ascend in the rankings. Ravi Bishnoi, after back-to-back two-wicket hauls against the Irish, surged 17 places to tie at 65th. Simultaneously, star pacer Jasprit Bumrah made an impressive comeback post-injury, hopping seven spots to be positioned 84th.
Shubman Gill, another shining star in the Indian batting line-up, edged up one rank to secure the fourth spot in the ICC ODI batter rankings. Gill's ascent is especially noteworthy given some fluctuating performances in the 50-over format as the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup loom large. The latest ICC ODI rankings, unveiled post the Pakistan-Afghanistan ODI match, reveal Gill with 743 rating points, cementing him as India's top batter.
Suryakumar Yadav, despite being absent from the Ireland series, retains his throne as the top batter in T20I rankings. Meanwhile, in the ODI arena, Pakistani batters Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq are firmly rooted at the first and third ranks, with Rassie van der Dussen nestled between them. Indian stalwarts Virat Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma remain at their ninth and 11th spots, respectively.
Switching to Test cricket, India's dynamic spinners, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, have clinched the titles of world's No. 1 bowler and all-rounder, respectively.
Looking ahead, India is slated for a packed white-ball cricket calendar leading up to the ODI World Cup 2023. The schedule includes the Asia Cup, followed by a series against Australia, all building up to the flagship event in October and November.
