The Indian cricket team's batting line-up is set to bolstered by the comeback of star batter Shreyas Iyer right ahead of the all-important Asia Cup 2023.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) delivered the promising news of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul's inclusion in India's squad for the Asia Cup which is set to start from August 30. Both players have made a triumphant recovery from their injuries, offering a solid reinforcement to the Men in Blue.
India's batting arsenal faced a gap, especially with the absence of Shreyas Iyer. He had rapidly solidified his position in the ODI circuit, given his commendable consistency over recent years. But the cricket fraternity watched with bated breath as he sustained a severe back injury, necessitating surgery. This medical intervention resulted in Iyer being sidelined for a significant chunk of matches, including missing out on the IPL 2023 stint with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
On Sunday, August 27, BCCI shared an interview with Shreyas Iyer on its official platform, X (previously known as Twitter). Iyer candidly discussed his challenging journey towards recovery and the emotions associated with rejoining the national squad. He stated, "Feeling ecstatic to be honest, to join the team and see happy faces all around. The compassion shown by all the players was fantastic and I am thrilled to be back."

Delving deeper into his health ordeal, Iyer revealed, "To be precise I had this nerve compression, basically a slip disc, which was compressing the nerve and the pain was going all the way down to the bottom of my tiny toe. It was horrendous, to be honest, at that point of time. And I was in excruciating pain and I wasn't able to express myself properly about what I'm going through."
He further added, "I am truly happy to be back where I am right now because I never imagined that I would recover so fast."
With an impressive tally of 10 Tests, 42 ODIs, and 49 T20Is under his belt, Shreyas Iyer is a valuable asset to the Indian team. His return, coupled with KL Rahul's, brings high hopes for India's performance in the upcoming Asia Cup matches.
