In a heartening development for cricket enthusiasts, India's star middle-order batter, Shreyas Iyer expressed his appreciation to the National Cricket Academy's (NCA) physiotherapists for aiding his recovery which led to his comeback in Indian Team's squad for the upcoming Asia Cup. Taking to Instagram, Iyer shed light on his rigorous recovery journey, spanning 5 months, due to a back injury he sustained during the esteemed Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.
The post shared by Iyer showcases him alongside NCA's dedicated physio, Nitin Patel, and trainer Rajinikant. The duo played a pivotal role during Iyer's strenuous rehabilitation phase.
In Iyer's own words, "Been a long journey but I'm super grateful to the people who stood by my side to help me to get where I am today. Thank you Nitin bhai, Rajini sir and everyone at The NCA, who've been tirelessly helping me. Much love and much appreciated."
Shreyas Iyer, known for his impeccable skills and performance in ODIs, has now secured his spot in India's 17-player line-up for the imminent Asia Cup. This selection comes on the heels of an extensive recovery period, heralding his long-awaited return to Team India.
The path to Iyer's full recovery was filled with perseverance. After undergoing surgery for his back ailment, a three-month-long, rigorous recovery process followed. To ascertain his readiness for competitive cricket post-recovery, Iyer engaged in simulation matches at NCA, Bengaluru, in August.
Echoing the sentiments of countless fans, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar affirmed Iyer's complete recovery and his readiness for the game.
Meanwhile, KL Rahul, another esteemed player, faced a slight setback. While undergoing his rehabilitation at the NCA alongside Iyer, Rahul encountered a minor issue after his recovery from a thigh injury. Notably, Agarkar confirmed this on Monday. Nonetheless, the renowned wicketkeeper-batter remains part of India's 17-man squad for the Asia Cup, with Sanju Samson enlisted as a backup during their Sri Lanka tour.
Cricket aficionados have their eyes set on India as they commence their Asia Cup campaign. The team is scheduled to face arch-rivals Pakistan on September 2, followed by a match against Nepal on September 4, both in Sri Lanka.
