Highlights:

Ruturaj Gaikwad-led India stormed into the semi-final of the Asian Games.

On the back of Yashasvi Jaiswal's maiden T20I century, and stupendous bowling display from Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi, India defeated a spirited Nepal side by 23 runs in the 2023 Asian Games quarter-final on October 3 (Tuesday). As a result, Ruturaj Gaikwad-led India stormed into the semi-final of the Asian Games.

India showcased a robust batting performance, posting a competitive 202 runs after being sent to bat first, with a key highlight being Yashasvi Jaiswal's outstanding maiden T20I hundred.

The Indian innings began strongly with openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad crafting a 103-run partnership in just 9.5 overs. Although Gaikwad faced challenges, managing 25 runs from 23 balls, he provided a solid foundation. His innings was brought to an end by Nepal's Dipendra Singh Airee. The spotlight, however, was on Jaiswal who dazzled with a century off 48 balls, propelling India beyond the 200-run threshold.

Support came in the form of Rinku Singh, who delivered a brisk 37 runs from 15 balls, incorporating two boundaries and four maximums. Shivam Dube also chipped in with a valuable 25 runs off 19 deliveries, including two boundaries and a six.

Nepal's bowling saw Dipendra emerging as the most effective with two wickets, while Sandeep Lamichhane and Sompal Kami added a wicket each to their tally.

Chasing a substantial target, Nepal displayed resilience but couldn't cross the finish line. Opener Kushal Bhurtel's 28 runs came at a relatively slow pace. Kushal Malla, known for his record-breaking T20I century, contributed a quick 29 runs before being ousted by Ravi Bishnoi.

Dipendra Airee, another notable name having surpassed Yuvraj Singh's record for the quickest T20I fifty, brought fireworks with a 32-run blitz from just 15 balls. However, it was Bishnoi again who put brakes on his innings. Sundeep Jora's 29 off 12 balls, studded with powerful hits, and Karan KC's efforts brought Nepal close, but they eventually ended at 179 for 9.

This gripping match underscored Jaiswal's batting prowess and India's overall balanced team performance to seal the victory.
