In a shocker of a news, Team India's chief selector Chetan Sharma has resigned from the top spot amid the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series between India and Australia. His resignation came following a TV Sting operation where he was seen making big revelations on Indian cricket.
Sports Tak has learnt that Chetan sent his resignation to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah, who accepted it with immediate effect. Chetan's resignation has also left the Team India's selection committee meeting for the last two Tests of Border-Gavaskar Trophy and the ODI series against Australia in lurch.
As far as the sting operation is concerned, in one of the big revelations was that the players have been taking injections to recover quickly from an injury and get fit for selection. The former cricketer also alleged that there was a difference of opinion between him and the team management over Bumrah’s return from a stress fracture for the T20I series against Australia in September.
It will be interesting to see who will take over Chetan for the coveted post. It will be interesting to see how BCCI will tackle with this sudden transition as the drill to appoint the new Team India's chief selector will be in full swing. The selection committee was supposed to sit with the head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma to pick the teams for last two Tests and the three-match ODI series. However, BCCI is likely to bar Sharma from attending the meeting until the internal enquiry is complete. If Chetan Sharma is denied permission to attend meetings, Shiv Sundar Das will be the interim chairman.
The 57-year-old was re-appointed as a chief selector last month but soon landed in the troubled water owing to the controversial sting operation of late. Chetan, before resuming the top post, was removed following India's lacklustre performance in the T20 World Cup in Australia.
