IND vs AUS: 'No bowler would like to celebrate him as debut wicket' — Fans frustrated after KL Rahul underperforms on Day 1

India are off to a great start on Day 1 of the first Test against Australia, but one player whose performance has been drawing a lot of criticism is KL Rahul. The opener scored 20 runs in 71 balls before being caught and bowled by Australian debutant Todd Murphy. His partnership with skipper Rohit Sharma was crucial as India scored 77 runs in 24 overs on what was an unpredictable pitch.

Rahul's form has been a cause for concern among the Indian fans and his low score did nothing to impress them. Many thought that Shubman Gill should have been drafted into the team, while others were 'sad' for Murphy at getting KL Rahul as his first wicket in Test cricket.

Here, we look at some of the tweets that blasted India's vice-captain.

Despite these comments, KL Rahul remains a key component of the national team.

In what was a one-sided day of action, the Indian spinners grabbed all the eyeballs. Leading the charge for the bowlers is Ravindra Jadeja, who returned to international cricket after almost five months. The veteran took five wickets in the first innings, with Ravichandran Ashwin bagging three more and Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj taking a wicket each.

Day 1 wrapped up with India in charge with the bat as well, with openers Rohit Sharma finishing the day with an unbeaten 56 runs in 69 balls. Rahul (20 off 71) was the only batter to lose his wicket, after being caught and bowled by the Australian debutant.
