India needed a miracle from the batters after Australia scored 480 in the first innings of the fourth Test in Ahmedabad on Saturday, March 11. Day 3 provided their hero in the form of Shubman Gill, who scored his second Test century — and fifth in 2023 — as India were 289 for the loss of just three wickets at stumps.
Speaking after the match, Gill revealed his delight in scoring this ton on the home turf of the Gujarat Titans (GT), also the defending Indian Premier League (IPL) champions. "It feels great to get a hundred here in India. Always a special feeling. We will start our IPL campaign soon as well. So good memories. This is my IPL home ground. Happy to get some runs here," said Gill.

"The pitch was pretty good to bat on. Anything happening on the pitch was off the rough areas. It was important for us to bat big and pick the singles whenever possible and that's what my mindset was when I went into bat," the opening batter added.
Gill was resilient during his 235-ball long innings, scoring his highest Test score of 128 before Nathan Lyon caught him LBW. With him going strong, Australia kept changing their tactic but an intelligent Gill tackled everything that was thrown at him.
Opening up on his tactics, the 23-year-old said, "Honestly, it was more about trying to remain positive and keep getting the singles, because they were bowling with an in-and-out field. They weren't attacking as much. It was just important to have patience and still be positive and look for the bad balls."
India are aiming for a big score on Day 4, and a win on the final day of the game, confirmed the young batter. "We are three down for almost 300. Hopefully, if we bat well tomorrow, get a big score, then anything can happen on day 5. Hopefully, the wicket would help our bowlers. If it does, we will be trying to win this match," said Gill.
