PAK vs AUS 3rd Test: Steve Smith becomes fastest to score 8000 Test runs

Steve Smith on Thursday (March 24) achieved a sensational record after the former Australia skipper became the fastest player to score 8000 runs in Test cricket.

Previously, in the first innings of the third Test match against Pakistan, Smith scored 59 runs of 169 deliveries and with this he scored highest number of runs after 150 innings, overcoming former players like Sachin Tendulkar (7869), Virender Sehwag (7694) and Rahul Dravid (7680) and Kumar Sangakkara (7913).


On Thursday (March 24), Smith became the fastest batsman to score 8000 runs as he overtook former cricketers like Kumar Sangakkara (152 innings), Sachin Tendulkar (154 innings), Garfield Sobers (157 innings) and Rahul Dravid (158 innings).

In the ongoing Test series against Pakistan, Smith has been in fine form. In the first innings of the first Test, Smith scored 78 runs off 196 balls and in the first innings of the second Test, the 32-year-old Aussie batter scored 72 runs off 214 deliveries.


The first match of the three-match Test series resulted in a dull draw and there was not much difference in the second Test match as it ended as a draw as well.


In the ongoing third Test match of the series, played in Lahore, the visitors scored 391 runs in first innings. Their opening batsman Usman Khawaja played a terrific innings of 91 runs off 219 balls. Later, Cameron Green contributed with 79 runs as wicketkeeper Alex Carey scored 67 to help their side in reaching a good total.


In reply, Pakistan started their batting on a positive note in the second innings as they were well-placed at 248/3 but due to poor batting collapse they lost their remaining seven wickets scoring just 20 runs.


For Australia, their skipper Pat Cummins exhibited superb bowling skills as he scalped five wickets as another Aussie pacer Mitchell Starc bagged four wickets. Australia spinner Nathan Lyon claimed one wicket.
