A target of 130 runs seemed pretty impossible after Minister Group Dhaka (MGD) lost four wickets scoring just 10 runs within first three overs but eventually West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell’s (31 runs off 15 balls) impressive knock helped Dhaka in clinching a four-wicket victory against Fortune Barishal, in a Bangladesh Premier League match, played on January 24 (Monday), in Dhaka.&nbsp;Batting first, Barishal registered a total of 129 runs losing 8 wickets in 20 overs. Barishal side faced an early trouble after they lost their first three wickets scoring just 23 runs within 6 overs.&nbsp;&nbsp;Crucial partnershipBut the West Indian pair of Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo registered a solid partnership of 33 runs off 19 balls to take their side to a fightable position. Previously Gayle was also part of another strong partnership (37 runs off 35 balls) with skipper Shakib-Al-Hasan (23 runs off 19 balls).&nbsp;Gayle who looked in superb form was dismissed by Sri Lanka fast bowler Isuru Udana in the 16th over as the West Indian southpaw went back to the dressing room after scoring 36 runs off 30 balls.&nbsp;Bravo, on the other hand, remained not out scoring 33 runs off 26 balls.&nbsp;For the Dhaka side, their West Indies all-rounder Russell and Udana picked up two wickets each.&nbsp;&nbsp;Barishal's battingIn reply, the Barishal bowlers had a terrific start after their left-arm medium pacer Shafiqul Islam dismissed two of the Dhaka openers- Tamim Iqbal (0) and wicketkeeper Mohammad Shahzad (5) in first three overs.&nbsp;West Indian fast bowler Alzarri Joseph gave Islam a good support as he also picked up two wickets- Mohammad Naim (4) and Jahurul Islam (0), quickly.&nbsp;&nbsp;But then skipper Mahmuddulah (47 runs off 47 balls) and Shuvagata Hom (29 runs off 25 balls) had a solid partnership of 69 runs off 62 balls between them to avert the early trouble. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Later Russell smashed 3 boundaries and 2 sixes to score 31 runs off 15 balls. Russell’s unbeaten innings helped Dhaka side to score the winning runs with 15 balls remaining.&nbsp;&nbsp;With this victory, the Dhaka side cinched their first victory of the tournament after playing three matches.&nbsp;Barishal on the other hand, have two points after playing two matches. &nbsp;

South African batsman Faf du Plessis played a terrific innings of 83 runs (not out) off 55 deliveries to help his side Comilla Victorians in securing a 52-run victory against Chattogram Challengers in a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match on January&nbsp;31 (Monday), at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, in Chattogram.&nbsp;The former South African skipper who was not retained by the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) might have done well in successfully sending a message to the IPL teams ahead of the mega IPL auctions.&nbsp;&nbsp;The South African batsman was the second-highest run-scorer of last year’s IPL tournament. He had scored 633 runs in the 2021 edition at an average of 45.21 and with a strike rate of 138.20.&nbsp;A comebackIn BPL, the veteran batsman did not have a good start this season as he could manage to score just 8 runs in first two matches. But it did not take too long for him to get back his old form as in the third match of the event, the prolific right-handed batter smashed 8 boundaries and 3 sixes to score 83 runs. Along with du Plessis, their opener Litton Das played a fine knock of 47 runs off 34 balls.&nbsp;Later, another South African batsman Cameron Delport scored a quick-fire half century (51 runs off 23 balls). Delport remained not out after hitting 4 boundaries and 3 sixes.&nbsp;&nbsp;Eventually, the Comilla-side reached a total of 183 runs losing 3 wickets in 20 overs.&nbsp;For Challengers, their left-arm bowler Nasum Ahmed picked up two wickets as another English bowler Benny Howell scalped one wicket.&nbsp;The run chaseIn reply, Challengers never looked confident enough to reach the target as they kept on losing wickets in quick succession.&nbsp;Within first six overs they lost their 5 batsmen with a mere total of 66 runs on the board. Their opening batsman Will Jacks was the only batter who seemed to be in a fine form as the English batsman was the highest-scorer for his side (69 runs off 42 balls). Apart from Jacks, only two other batsmen- Mehidy Hasan (10 runs) and Mrittunjoy Chowdhury (13 runs)- managed to reach the double digit-mark.&nbsp;For Victorians their spinner Nahidul Islam claimed three wickets as Mustafizur Rahman, Tanvir Islam and Shohidul Islam picked up two wickets each.&nbsp;

West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell was dismissed in a bizarre fashion on Friday (January 21) in a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match between Minister Group Dhaka (MGD) and Khulna Tigers.&nbsp;&nbsp;The extraordinary run out happened on the final ball of the 15th over. While facing Khulna’s bowler Thisara Perera, MGD all-rounder Russell played a shot towards the third man region and ran to take a single. Mahedi Hasan’s throw that was directed towards striker’s end hit the stumps but did not create any trouble as MGD skipper Mahmudullah had reached the striker’s end successfully.&nbsp;&nbsp;Crazy dismissalBut the craziest thing happened after that as the ball hit the stumps at striker’s end before ricocheting off to the non-striker’s end.&nbsp;The West Indies all-rounder had no clue about the trajectory of the ball as he was slowly running towards the stumps on his side. But the ball eventually hit the stumps and dismissed Russell as he was pretty well short of his crease.&nbsp;Previously, MGD’s opening batsman Mohammad Shahzad was also a victim of a run out and departed scoring 42 runs off 27 balls.&nbsp;Another opening batsman, Tamim Iqbal scored a half century (50 runs off 42 balls).&nbsp;Russell tried to settle in after hitting a six but was a victim of an unfortunate run out as he was sent back to the dressing room scoring just 7 runs.&nbsp;Skipper Mahmudullah’s 39 runs off 20 balls helped his side in reaching a total of 183 runs losing 6 wickets in 20 overs.&nbsp;For Khulna Tigers, their bowler Kamrul Islam picked up three wickets.&nbsp;Fletcher's solid startIn reply, Tigers opener Andre Fletcher started the innings on a positive note as he scored 45 runs off 23 balls. Later, Rony Talukdar scored a half century (61 runs off 42 deliveries) to help his side in reaching a comfortable position in the run chase.&nbsp;Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera eventually played a superb knock of 36 runs off just 18 balls to guide his side to a 5-wicket victory. Perera smashed 6 boundaries in his innings.&nbsp;Khulna Tigers reached the target in the penultimate over only after losing 5 of their batsmen.&nbsp;

Andre Russell gets run out in unluckiest way possible with ball hitting stumps at both ends

West Indies batter Andre Fletcher was stretched off to hospital after he was hit by a ball on his neck in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Playing for Khulna Tigers, the incident took place which left everyone shell-shocked but the management of the team has come out and stated that the player is safe and doing good. The 34-year-old was rushed to the hospital with immediate effect. &nbsp;Timeline of the incidentThe incident occurred in the seventh over of the Khulna Tigers innings when Fletcher was batting on 16 off 11 deliveries after hitting one boundary and a six. Rejaur Rahman Raja, on debut, was tasked to bowl and his short delivery was miss-hit by Fletcher, in an attempt to play a pull shot. Fletcher completely missed the ball and it resulted in the tragic incident. After collapsing on the pitch, he was seen in excruciating pain. He was immediately attended by the medical staff and physios. He was straightaway stretched off to the hospital and was replaced by concussion substitute Sikandar Raza. "He appeared to be okay”, said the BCB physician after the incident. "He is out of danger but we are taking him to hospital as part of precaution. “Fletcher is doing well. He is also in his senses, and not feeling any problems. But since he was hit on the neck, we are being cautious and not taking any risks. If the doctor advises for a scan then it will be done. At the moment it’s fine,” Khulna Tigers manager Nafees Iqbal said after the match. in an interview with Dhaka Tribune.&nbsp;Khulna concede defeat The incident did have bearings on the outcome of the contest as Khulna Tigers lost the match by 25 runs with Rejaur Raja ending with best figures of 20/2. The win sees Chattogram Challengers go top of the standings with two wins and a defeat while Khulna Tigers remain at fourth spot with one win and a defeat. The incident brought back the memories of Philip Hughes’ tragic death after he was hit on the back of the head by a short delivery back in November 2014 in a Sheffield Shield encounter in Australia.&nbsp;
