India vs Bangladesh 1st Test match will be the first red-ball assignment for Gautam Gambhir as head coach.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma is currently in Chennai preparing for the 1st Test match against Bangladesh which is scheduled to start from September 19. This will be India's first red-ball assignment after the home series against England. Indian star players likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Virat Kohli are making a comeback in the squad. Kohli who last featured in a Test match against South Africa in 2023/24 will feature at Chepauk and on the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah who was on rest since the T20 World Cup 2024 final will also feature on September 19.

This Test series will be the first assignment for India's head coach Gautam Gambhir and his support staff. They joined the squad after Rahul Dravid's tenure ended with India's T20 World Cup 2024 win.  In Gambhir’s first outing as coach, India swept the T20I series against the Islanders 3-0, but lost the ensuing ODI series 0-2.

Rohit Sharma reckoned that the Dravid-led support staff were a different team and this new support staff would bring different perspective to the team.

"Obviously, Rahul bhai, Vikram Rathour (former batting coach) and Paras Mhambrey (former bowling coach) were a different team and it is only acceptable that the new support staff will bring different perspective," Rohit said in the pre-series press conference here on Tuesday.

Rohit Praise the new support staff for their understanding behaviour during India's tour of Sri Lanka where Men in Blue played three match T20I series followed by three match ODI series.

"But the matches that we engaged in (with the new staff) in Sri Lanka, they seemed to be sensible and understanding. They began to learn things pretty quickly within the team," he added.

Rohit used his long association with Gambhir during the latter's playing days, and with Abhishek Nayar in the Mumbai dressing room to underline his comfortable working relation with them.

"It's a new (support) staff for sure, but I have known Gautam Gambhir and Abhishek Nayar long enough. Every support staff has its operating style, and that's what we were expecting. I have worked with different coaches over 17 years of my career, and it's vital to understand that all of them have a unique perspective (about cricket), and it's a must that you adjust with them," said Rohit.

Team India will play two Test match series against Bangladesh where the second Test match will be played at Green Park Stadium  in Kanpur from 27 September to 1 October.
