Indian veteran cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin's all-round show helped India to defeat Bangladesh by 280 runs in the 1st Test match at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Ashwin was the hero in his home ground the bowling all-rounder smashed his fifth Test century in the first innings and after that, he picked a six-wicket haul which helped India to take a 1-0 lead in two Test match series.
Set an improbable target of 515, Bangladesh were bowled out for 234 in their second innings, with first-inning centurion Ashwin (6/88) doing the bulk of the damage at his home ground at the Chepauk. Ravindra Jadeja picked up 3/58. Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto top-scored for visitors with an 82 off 127 balls.
Earlier on Day 3, Bangladesh were 158/4 before bad light stopped the play in Chennai. India declared their second innings at 287 for 4 riding on twin hundreds from Rishabh Pant (109) and Shubman Gill (119) for an overall lead of 514. India were 30-3 when Pant joined Gill in the second innings and both batters managed a partnership of 167 runs.
