Star Australia all-rounder and a proven champion in the shortest format of the game, Daniel Christian on January 21 (Saturday) announced that he will be retiring from the sport at the end of the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) season. The veteran all-rounder is currently competing in the competition with the Sydney Sixers. The 39-year-old announced his decision by posting a lengthy statement on Twitter.
"Yesterday (Friday) at training I told by Sydney Sixers teammates that I'll be retiring from playing at the end of the BBL season," the pace-bowling all-rounder said in a post on Twitter.
"Sydney Smash tonight, followed by our last round game against the Hurricanes, and then the finals.
"Hopefully we can go all the way again this season, but regardless, it's been a great run. I've achieved things and made some memories that I could only have dreamt of as a kid.
"I'm looking forward to now having the time to catch up with you all and not having to use the excuse 'sorry, I've got cricket'," he added.
In a career spanning 18 years, Christian evolved as a true champion in the shortest format of the game. He played 405 T20 matches and scored 5,809 runs at a strike rate of 138.17, including two centuries, He also accounted for 280 wickets at an economy rate of 8.45. The veteran all-rounder was part of nine title-winning teams in the T20 cricket.
Christian also has played 23 T20Is and 20 ODIs for Australia.
