Alex Hales scored more than half of his team runs as Sydney Thunder suffered a batting collapse.

As many as three batters were run out by Perth Scorchers.

Sydney Thunder had set a good platform to build on against Perth Scorchers with the bat. As Alex Hales and Tom Kohler-Cadmore dominated the bowlers at the Thunder’s homeground, it seemed that they were set to post a big total on the board. But, Kohler-Cadmore's run out kick-started a chain of events that resulted in them from 88/1 in the 12th over to 137/8.

After winning the toss, Scorchers captain Aaron Hardie opted to bowl first. Hales took on Hardie in the third over hitting him for two consecutive sixes. After scoring just 35 runs from the powerplay overs, Cameron Bancroft was run out for a 19-ball 12. Hales found the perfect partner in Kohler-Cadmore. The Englishman hit Tye for two consecutive sixes in the 10th over. In the next over, Jhye Richardson conceded 19 runs from the over.

Thunder were accelerating then Kohler-Cadmore went for a non-existent single and was caught short of the crease. After his 18-ball 27, Ashton Agar capped off the over with the wicket of Matthew Gilkes. In the next over, Hales reached his half-century from 39 balls. In the 14th over, Thunder lost their third wicket to run out. This time Hales wanted a single which wasn't there for the taking. Oliver Davies lost his wicket for a single-digit score.

Agar finished his spell with a wicket maiden. Alex Ross became his second victim. Agar conceded just four runs from his quota of four overs. In the next over, Cooper Connolly got the wicket of Daniel Sams.  In the penultimate over, Chris Green smashed Tye for a six. Then Hales finished the over with a six to take momentum into the final over.

Hales smashed Connolly for a six off the third ball of the final over. On the fourth ball, he got stumped. His 55-ball 72 was laced with four fours and five sixes. On the next over, Nathan McAndrew got stumped as well. Thunder managed to post 137/8 on the board, considerably lower than what they were expected to.
