Mushfiqur Rahim took to social media to announce his ODI retirement. He expressed gratitude to his family, friends, and fans for their support throughout his 19-year career in the format. He candidly admitted that the past few weeks had been very challenging, suggesting that these difficulties may have influenced his decision to retire.
Despite Bangladesh's limited success in international tournaments, Rahim vowed for his unwavering dedication and commitment to giving his utmost effort whenever he represented his country. He conveyed a sense of pride in his contributions, regardless of the team's overall results.
“I am announcing my retirement from the ODI format as of today. I am announcing my retirement from the ODI format as of today. While our achievements may have been limited on a global level, one thing is certain: whenever I stepped onto the field for my country, I gave more than 100% with dedication and honesty,” Mushfiqur's Instagram post read.
“Lastly, I would like to deeply thank my family, friends and my fans for whom I have played cricket for the last 19 years,” his post further read.
Mushfiqur Rahim made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in August 2006 marked the end of his 19-year-long illustrious career. He leaves behind a legacy as Bangladesh's most capped ODI player, having participated in 274 matches.
Throughout his career, Rahim amassed 7795 ODI runs, placing him second only to Tamim Iqbal among Bangladeshi batters. His batting prowess was evident in his 49 half-centuries and nine centuries. Moreover, his contributions as a wicketkeeper were substantial, with 243 catches and 56 stumpings to his name.
