After Mohammed Shami and Harshit Rana combined to take the first three wickets, Axar's twin strikes reduced Bangladesh to 35 for five. Axar dismissed Tanzid Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim off the second and third deliveries of the ninth over before India captain Rohit Sharma dropped an easy catch in the slips off the fourth ball to deny the left-arm spinner his hat-trick.

Rohit Sharma apologises to Axar Patel

The whole stadium and everyone watching at home stood on their feet in disbelief as Rohit Sharma dropped the sitter which could have been a Champions Trophy hat-trick for Axar Patel. The Indian captain was extremely disappointed with himself and furious. It was clearly visible as he was seen beating the ground out of anger.

He later stood up and joined his hands in apologising to Axar. Axar Patel, who missed out on a big moment, did not hold it against his skipper and told him it was okay just moments after he dropped it. The Indian team has gained good control of the match, and the way their bowlers are bowling, Bangladesh is reeling behind.

Rohit Sharma was not unhappy after losing the toss. He wanted to bowl first, and the decision seems to have been right. The Indian team is off to a spectacular start against Bangladesh.

"I would have fielded first. We have played a few years back here so we felt ball comes on better under lights. All looking good. Everyone is fit and fine to go. Let's hope we start well. There is no looking back, every game becomes very important in this tournament. Only Varun misses out from the last ODI we played, Jadeja comes back and Arshdeep misses and Shami comes back," said Rohit Sharma at toss.

This is the second match of Group A, in the first match New Zealand defeated Pakistan by 60 runs. So this match is crucial for both sides to gain a good start in the marquee event.
