India's veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja did not bowl in Saurashtra's convincing win by an innings and 144 runs against Assam in their final group stage clash in Ranji Trophy 2024-25. Jadeja came out to bat at no.9 as well which raised questions over his fitness ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. 

In addition, Vishvarajsingh Jadeja replaced him on the field. However, Ravindra's Saurashtra teammate clarified that the star all-rounder is not injured but it was just a precautionary measure.

“He was not injured. We had just rested him on the field as a precautionary measure as he will part of India’s Champions Trophy squad,” a Saurashtra team member told The Indian Express.

 

 

How Jadeja fared in previous Ranji clash vs Delhi?

Ravindra played both Ranji matches in the second leg of group stage. In the previous encounter, he claimed 12 wickets against Delhi including a seven-fer for just 38 runs in the second innings. He dismissed wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant on his return in the second innings as well. The southpaw batted at no.5 and scored 38 runs from 36 balls including a couple of fours and three sixes.

Jadeja's ODI record against England

The 36-year-old will now feature in the upcoming three-ODI series against Jos Buttler-led England. The first ODI will be played at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur on February 6. 

Jadeja has got a good all-round record against England in the format. He has scored 509 runs from 21 innings at an average of 43.41 including three half-centuries. His strike rate is an impressive 42.41. The left-arm spinner has taken 39 wickets against England as well at an average of 24.41 including two four-wicket hauls. Also, his economy rate against them is just 4.77 runs per over.

Jadeja was also a part of India's squad in the previous edition of ICC Champions Trophy in 2017. Before that, he played a crucial part in India's Champions Trophy 2013 title win. In the final, he contributed with an unbeaten 33 off 25 balls in the rain-curtailed 20 overs per side game at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Then, he claimed a couple of crucial wickets of Ian Bell and Buttler while conceding 24 runs in his quota of four overs.
