Fakhar Zaman is reportedly all set to take a massive career decision after the conclusion of Champions Trophy 2025. Fakhar Zaman mulls over ODI retirement after Champions Trophy 2025
Fakhar's decision follows Pakistan's disappointing performance in the Champions Trophy, which saw them facing early elimination from the tournament. Sources close to the 34-year-old have hinted that he has engaged in private discussions regarding his future, and an official announcement could be forthcoming.
"Champions Trophy will be my last ICC tournament. I want to take a break from ODI cricket," Zaman reportedly said, as quoted by Times Now
The reason behind Zaman's possible retirement is reportedly multifaceted, with his persistent health concerns playing a big role. He has been managing hyperthyroidism, a condition that has likely impacted his performance and overall well-being. Moreover, he sustained an injury during Pakistan's opening match of the Champions Trophy, which forced him to withdraw from the remainder of the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025. These compounding factors appear to have prompted Zaman to reconsider his ODI career.

Adding to the speculation surrounding 34-year-old's potential ODI retirement, reports suggest that he has become increasingly disillusioned with the administrative aspects of Pakistani cricket. Frustration is said to be mounting over selection decisions and, notably, the issuance of No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) which are required for players to participate in foreign leagues. These issues, combined with his health concerns, appear to be contributing to his desire to step away from the format. As per the floating reports it has been learnt that Zaman is also mulling over relocating his family to abroad
Following his forced withdrawal from the Champions Trophy due to injury, Zaman posted a cryptic and emotionally charged message on social media platform X.
"Representing Pakistan on the biggest stage is an honour and dream of every cricketer in this country. I have been privileged enough to represent Pakistan multiple times with pride. Unfortunately, I'm now out of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 but surely Allah is the best planner. Grateful for the opportunity. I will be backing our boys in green from home. This is only just the beginning, the comeback will be stronger than the setback. Pakistan Zindabad," Zaman's post on X read.
As far as Zaman's ODI track record is concerned, he has featured in 86 ODIs and has amassed 3651 runs with a an impressive average of 46.21 and highest score of 210. Zaman also played a key role in Pakistan's title win in Champions Trophy 2017. If the star batter ended up retiring from the ODI cricket, it will further compound Pakistan cricket's woes.
