LSG's Mayank Yadav is all set to miss the first half of the upcoming IPL 2025

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) has suffered a massive blow as their tearaway speedster Mayank Yadav is set to miss the first the first half of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 which is set to start from March 22. According to ESPNcricinfo, Mayank Yadav is currently recovering from a lumbar stress injury. He has recently resumed bowling again at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, where he has been undergoing rehabilitation. This injury occurred following his debut for India in the T20I series against Bangladesh last October.

Injured Mayank Yadav to miss first half of the IPL 2025

While the BCCI has not yet established a definitive return date for Mayank Yadav, his potential participation in the latter half of the IPL remains a possibility. This hinges on his successful progression through fitness assessments and a gradual increase in his bowling workload.

LSG will face a significant challenge with Mayank Yadav's absence during the first half of the IPL 2025 season. Having retained him for a substantial INR 11 crore (approximately $1.31 million) ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, this unavailability represents a considerable setback.

Mayank's elevated salary is largely attributed to his exceptional ability to consistently bowl at speeds exceeding 150 kph. His tearaway pace earned him consecutive Player-of-the-Match awards in his initial two IPL appearances, showcasing his immediate impact. Recognising his talent, the national selectors further validated his potential by including him in the pool of fast bowlers awarded central contracts.

Mayank's IPL 2024 season was curtailed to only four matches, as a persistent side strain affected his performance in the final two. During his subsequent rehabilitation period, he sustained a separate injury, further delaying his return. Despite this setback, he eventually made his international debut in the T20I series against Bangladesh. However, his comeback was short-lived, as he suffered another injury shortly after, necessitating a return to rehabilitation. Although the BCCI has not released official details regarding Mayank's injury, it is believed that he is dealing with a stress-related injury in his lower back, specifically on the left-hand side.

Prior to Mayank's current rehabilitation, LSG had been actively involved in managing his recovery. In February, Zaheer Khan, the former Indian fast bowler who has assumed the role of LSG's team director, confirmed that LSG was working closely with the BCCI's medical team on Mayank's recovery.

“We’ve had some interesting conversations on his roadmap to recovery and fitness with the NCA. We are working with them and hope for their support. He is not only important for LSG but also for Indian cricket,” Zaheer had told TOI.
