India captain Rohit Sharma became the fastest ODI opener to score 9000 runs. He created this record while featuring against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy 2025 clash at Dubai International Stadium in Dubai. Before featuring against Pakistan, India's captain was on 8999 runs.
The 37-year-old star reached this mark after scoring first run of the match. He becomes the sixth opener to reach this milestone. Rohit joined Sachin Tendulkar (15310), Sanath Jayasuriya (12740), Chris Gayle (10179), Adam Gilchrist (9200), and Sourav Ganguly (9146) in the elite club.
Rohit surpassed all other batters to become the fastest opener to reach 9000 ODI runs, achieving the feat in only his 181st innings in the position. Rohit surpassed Tendulkar who had previously held the record, having scaled 9000 in 197 innings as an opener. In the previous game against Bangladesh, the Mumbaikar joined the 11,000-run ODI club in only his 261st innings, the second-quickest to the mark behind teammate Virat Kohli (222).
