One day after training with the Mumbai Ranji Trophy squad at the Wankhede Stadium, India captain Rohit Sharma was seen on Wednesday morning working out at a private complex in Mumbai. Rohit was observed in the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) participating in running drills. He may be seen running on a park track in a video that has been widely circulated on social media. After the sprint, the two were seen talking, suggesting that Rohit was accompanied by a trainer.
Rohit to play Ranji?
Rohit Sharma's participation in Mumbai's forthcoming Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir at the BKC starting on January 23 is still uncertain. Rohit has not yet confirmed that he will play in the upcoming round of India's top first-class competition, even though he trained with the Mumbai team on Tuesday, which included skipper Ajinkya Rahane.
In the meantime, Rohit seems to have started getting ready for the forthcoming ODI series against England, which is scheduled to begin on February 6. He will captain India in the Champions Trophy, which is set to start on February 19. India may reveal their teams for these important ODI matches on January 18 or 19, according to sources.
After a lacklustre showing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India's top batters have shown a renewed desire to participate in the upcoming Ranji Trophy round. Starting on January 23, players like Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and Yashasvi Jaiswal are anticipated to play for their respective home teams. Whether Virat Kohli will play for Delhi is still uncertain. The former skipper was named as one of Delhi's probables for the remaining two Ranji Trophy matches. He last participated in a domestic first-class match in 2012.
After Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli struggled with the bat during the 2024–25 Test season, questions have been raised about their futures. Before leaving the final game in Sydney, Rohit only scored 31 runs in three Test matches in Australia. At the end of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, there were rumours that Rohit would announce his retirement from Test cricket. The skipper, however, stated that he wanted to play for India going forward and underlined that his absence from the fifth Test had nothing to do with retirement.
