India vice captain Shubman Gill lavished praise on skipper Rohit Sharma for his strategy in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand at Dubai International Stadium in Dubai. Team India defeated New Zealand by four wickets to win their seventh ICC title.
Gill revealed that Rohit told him not to care about the scoreboard gap and he aimed to bat till the end in the finale of the mega event.
"Felt amazing. For the most time, I sat back and enjoyed Rohit's batting. He told me doesn't matter how the scoreboard gap is, the aim was to bat till the end" said Gill after India's four wicket win against New Zealand.
Recalling India's ODI World Cup 2023 final loss, Gill is happy as India won eight consecutive ODIs. He also lavished praise on Rohit's attacking batting during the Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand
"We missed out in 2023, happy to win eight ODIs back to back. Seeing the intensity with which he plays with is amazing. He keeps telling us to give it everything and backs it up" added Gill.
Rohit was awarded Player of the Match for his iconic 76 runs knock while chasing 251 runs in the final of the mega event. On the other hand, Gill, who came to bat alongside Rohit, scored 31 runs.
India completed the chase of 252 with six balls to spare after Rohit (76 off 83 balls) and Shreyas Iyer (48 off 62 balls) shone with the bat.
This is India's third Champions Trophy triumph after 2002 and 2013. India becomes the most successful team in the history of the mega event.
