India captain Rohit Sharma revealed that the team management is not sure of legendary speedster Jasprit Bumrah at this stage and they need someone who can fill his shoes in the Champions Trophy 2025 which is why they picked Arshdeep Singh in the 15-member squad for the marquee event.
On Bumrah's participation chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that the management is waiting for the speedster's fitness and they will know the clarity in early February before the marquee event.
"We're waiting on Jasprit Bumrah's fitness and will know his status in early February from BCCI's medical team" said chief selector Ajit Agarkar in squad's press conference.
"We're not sure of Jasprit Bumrah at this stage, so we wanted someone who can take up that role, we picked Arshdeep Singh" said Rohit in the squad's press conference.
Bumrah who is part of India's Champions Trophy squad has missed his spot in the three-match ODI series against England which is scheduled to start from February 6.
Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to start from February 19 and the matches will be played in Dubai and Pakistan. Team India will play all their matches in Dubai and they will start their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20.
