The Commonwealth Games 2022's Day 9 saw a medal spree for India as 14 more metals were added to their medal tally. In a wrestlers' day out, India finished their Day 2 of the wrestling campaign in Birmingham with six gold as Indian grapplers looked in their prime touch as they secured atleast a medals in every category they fought in. Notably, all 12 Indian wrestlers won medals in Commonwealth Games 2018 in Gold Coast and the wrestling team has been able to repeat the feat.
The penultimate day of the Games will see India with a chance to increase their medal tally further with medals assured in cricket, boxing and table tennis. Harmanpreet-led India will be seen chasing CWG history as they take on Australia in the gold medal clash. Meanwhile, Indian boxers Nikhat Zareen, Amit Panghal and Nitu will look to finish their CWG campaign by bagging a yellow metal each.
On the other hand, athletics Indian stars will look for Avinash Sable and Priyanka Goswami for inspiration, who claimed silver medals in 3000m steeplechase and 10,000km race walk. In the fray for India will be triple jumpers Abdulla Aboobacker, Eldhose Paul, Praveen Chitravel, Javelin throwers Shilpa Rani, Annu Rani, Rohit Yadav, Manu DP and race walkers Amit, Sandeep Kumar. Also vying for historic medals will be the men’s and women’s relay teams as well.
