Covid scare in CWG 2022: India's flagbearer PV Sindhu forced into temporary isolation after deviation in first RT-PCR Test

Olympic medallist and India's flagbearer in Commonwealth Games 2022 PV Sindhu has been forced into temporary isolation after certain deviation in the first round of RT-PCR test upon reaching Birmingham on Thursday.

 

The former world champion’s second test came negative and further was allowed to join team member at the Games Village. The 2-time Olympic medallist was told to not come in contact with her badminton contingent till her second result came out.

 

It was because of this scare that the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) delayed the announcement of India's flagbearer for the Games.

 

On Wednesday, Sindhu and India men’s hockey team captain Manpreet Singh were named as India’s flag-bearer for the ceremony to be held on Thursday.

 

As per CWG 2022 rules, all athletes must undergo RT-PCR test for detecting covid-19 72 hours prior to their arrival in UK and then upon reaching, their will be another test in Birmingham.

 

The United Kingdom government has removed all travel restrictions for people travelling to the country for the Commonwealth Games.


215-member Indian contingent will participate in the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. The multi-sport event starts today in Birmingham. will take place from 28 July to 8 August, 2022. India won 66 medals in 2018 CWG in Gold Coast. This time the target is 75-80 Medals by the Indian squad.
