Jeremy Lalrinnunga wins India's second gold at Birmingham Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022 with a record-breaking lift. Jeremy looked determined to win the medal despite injury and continued to lift. His third attempts in both snatch and clean and jerk were fouled but he managed to achieve a games record with 140kg snatch followed by 160kg in clean and jerk. The total weight of 300kg that he lifted is a CWG record as well.
Samoa’s Vaipava Ioane won the silver meda. Ioane set a CWG record for clean and jerk in the 67kg category with his 166kg lift. Jeremy was way ahead of his opponents in the snatch round. Nigeria's Umoafia Edidiong Joseph won the bronze medal. Joseph's third lift of 160 kg for clean and jerk was the same as Jeremy's.
After that Jeremy used the photo of CWG gold medal as his smartphone’s wallpaper. Jeremy won the gold despite struggling with cramps during his record-breaking 140kg lift. In his first clean and jerk attempt, he completed the lift but fell on his knees in pain. He walked out for the second lift and managed to complete it but needed support to walk backstage. Lastly, he attempted 165kg but injured his elbow and fell flat on the podium.
Jeremy rose through the ranks with gold medal at Youth Olympics 2018. He could not qualify for the Tokyo Olympics after picking up a knee injury during Asian qualifying event where he finished in the eighth place.

The gold medal takes India’s tally of medals to five at CWG 2022. On Day 2, all four medals came in weightlifting as well. Mirabai Chanu won the gold medal, Sanket Sargar, Bindiyarani Devi won silver medal and Gururaja Poojary won the bronze medal.
