India's Tulika Maan missed out on a historic gold in the women's 78kg final of the Judo event, losing to Scotland's Sarah Adlington just 30 seconds before the end of their bout by virtue of Ippon, or virtual knockout.
The 22-year-old, a four-time national champion, was close to a medal with consecutive Shido's in the 1:04 and the 1:47 minutes of the match, before a Waza-ari 2:11 inside the match. But an ippon in the final seconds of the competition snatched the win away from the hands of the young Indian star.
Earlier, Tulika booked her berth in the women's 78kg final to secure a medal, eventually a silver, after beating New Zealand's Sydnee Andrews within three minutes in the semifinal match.
This is India's third medal in Judo, and second silver, at the showpiece event. Shushila Devi and Vijay Kumar had claimed silver and bronze in women's 48kg and men's 60kg respectively on Monday.
It must be noted that in the wake of the de-recognition of the Judo Federation of India on April 22, an expert committee was constituted by the Sports Authority of India to oversee the trials and the selection process for the CWG and also suggest necessary changes.
The committee included Olympian Judokas Cawas Billimoria, Sandeep Byala and Sunith Thakur as well as Judo masters Arun Dwivedi and Yogesh K Dhadve.
