CWG 2022: India settle for silver medal in mixed team event as PV Sindhu's super show goes in vain

India had to settle for silver medal in the badminton mixed team event as Malaysia avenged the Commonwealth Games 2018 defeat. Apart from PV Sindhu, Indian shuttlers were outclassed by the Malaysians as they won by 3-1.
 

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty lost to Aaron Chia and Sooh Wooi Yik 18-21, 15-21. PV Sindhu reignited India's hopes with Goh Jin Wei in straight sets 22-20, 21-17 in a closely-fought contest. 
 

Ng Tze Yong beat Kidambi Srikanth 21-19, 6-21, 21-16 in the single's round. Treesa Jolly, Gayatri Gopichand came back well but lost to Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan 21-18 21-17.  
 

Ashwini Ponappa did not get to showcase her talent in the final with Rankireddy as India could not fight till the end.

 

The silver medal took India’s tally of medals to 13. This was India's fifth silver medal at the Games. India are ranked seventh on the list on the medals tally.
