Wrestlers Divya Kakran and Mohit Grewal added to India's medals tally with bronze medals at Birmingham Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022. Kakran and Grewal won their respective repechage rounds to help India take their tally to 26 at the games.
In the women's freestyle 68 kg category, Divya faced a tough draw as she went up against Tokyo Olympic silver medallist and 11-time African champion, Nigeria’s Blessing Oborududu. After losing to the Nigeria, she took on Blandine Nyeh Ngiri in the repechage round and won the bronze medal by fall.
On the other hand, in the men’s 125 kg category, Mohit beat Cyprus’ Alexios Kaouslidis 10-1 but lost to Canada’s Indian origin wrestler Amarveer Dhesi on the basis of technical superiority. Later, he beat Jamaica’s Aaron Anthony Johnson in the repechage bout by fall.
