On the eve of the Duleep Trophy 2024 opening round, Shreyas Iyer-led Team D’s star wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan is likely to withdraw from the clash against Ruturaj Gaikwad's Team C. The reason for Kishan's withdrawal is not clear.
As per a report by Cricbuzz, the left-handed batter may have sustained an injury during the Buchi Babu Invitational tournament.
While Kerala wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson is expected to replace him in the squad, Srikar Bharat is likely to keep wickets in India D's campaign opener. Samson has scored 3,623 runs from 62 games at an average of 38.54 including 10 centuries and 15 fifties.
Team D's second game of the four-day first-class tournament is against Team A led by Shubman Gill. As the extend of the said injury is unknown, his participation in the second game starting on September 12 in Anantpur remains in doubt as well.
How Jharkhand fared in Buchi Babu tournament?
Kishan recently represented Jharkhand in the ongoing Buchi Babu tournament. He played against Madhya Pradesh and Hyderabad. He started the season with a 114-run knock followed by an unbeaten 41 in the second innings of the first match against Madhya Pradesh. After a win in the first game, Kishan registered scores of 1 and 5 in the second game against Hyderabad. Jharkhand got knocked out of the tournament after the loss.

Other players to miss Duleep Trophy first round
Earlier, BCCI made a few changes to the Duleep Trophy squads. Team B's Mohammed Siraj and Team C's Umran Malik were ruled out of the first round. Siraj was unwell whereas Malik is yet to regain full fitness fater suffering from dengue. Siraj and Malik have been replaced by Navdeep Saini and Gaurav Yadav respectively. Ravindra Jadeja has been released from Team B as well. Also, Team C's Suryakumar Yadav will miss the first game after sustaining a hand injury.
