In a massive blow to Shubman Gill-led India A team a day before the start of the Duleep Trophy 2024, star pacer Prasidh Krishna has been ruled out of the first game.
Prasidh Krishna to miss Duleep Trophy's opening fixture
A Cricbuzz report stated that the Indian pacer has not yet reached full match fitness and will therefore miss India A's opening Duleep Trophy 2024 game against India B on Thursday, September 5, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. However, there is currently no information regarding Krishna's replacement for the game. The fast bowler underwent surgery on his left proximal quadriceps tendon in February and has been undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
Prasidh Krishna has been a valuable contributor to India's limited-overs cricket team. In 17 ODI matches, he has taken 29 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 5.60. Moreover, in 5 T20I appearances, he has claimed 8 wickets at an average of 27.50.
It was India's tour of South Africa where Prasidh Krishna was last seen in action where he scalped only one wicket in the second Test at Cape Town. In January 2024, Krishna suffered a left quadriceps injury while playing for Karnataka against Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy.
The Karnataka pacer also missed the entire IPL 2024 season due to his recovery from surgery. The Rajasthan Royals had to adjust their plans by signing Sandeep Kumar as a replacement. This marked the second consecutive season he missed due to the same injury. Krishna was hoping to make a comeback in the Duleep Trophy with the aim of earning a spot in India's Test squad for the upcoming series against Bangladesh. However, the BCCI, which recently appointed Ajay Ratra as the national selector, has not provided any updates on Krishna's fitness or his availability for future matches in the tournament. The pacer sustained a left quadriceps injury while bowling for Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy earlier this year.
