Highlights:

Injury and illness have jeopardises India's star players participation in Duleep Trophy.

Suryakumar Yadav has been ruled out of the first round of Duleep Trophy due to injury.

Duleep Trophy 2024-2025 is set to kick off from September 5, but the tournament has already seen a flurry of last-minute changes. A total of six players have pulled out due to injuries and illness.

Injury rules out Suryakumar Yadav from Duleep Trophy's first round

The biggest names among them are Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan. Suryakumar Yadav sustained a hand injury during the Buchi Babu tournament while playing for Mumbai, while Ishan Kishan has developed a hamstring niggle. Suryakumar Yadav was set to play for India C, which is being led by Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Besides Suryakumar Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, and Umran Malik have also been ruled out of the tournament. Notably, the reason behind Malik and Siraj's withdrawal is illness. Surprisingly, Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has also withdrawn from the tournament without giving any reason. The BCCI has not yet disclosed the reason behind Jadeja's withdrawal. Meanwhile, Navdeep Saini and Gaurav Yadav have replaced Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik in the India B and C squads.

Ishan Kishan, Prasidh Krishna doubtful for starter

In addition, Prasidh Krishna and Ishan Kishan are also doubtful for the Duleep Trophy 2024's starter, as reported by Cricbuzz. Prasidh recently underwent surgery and has not yet fully recovered. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan has sustained a hamstring injury. Prasidh Krishna was last seen playing in the Ranji Trophy match between Karnataka and Gujarat. He did not participate in the IPL 2024, where he plays for the Rajasthan Royals.

The exact reason for Ishan's absence from the initial match is still unclear, but reports suggest that he may have sustained an injury. This could lead to a significant change in Shreyas Iyer's team for the first match. According to Cricbuzz, Sanju Samson, who was part of the T20 World Cup 2024-winning Indian team, might replace Ishan in the squad. Although Samson was not initially included in any of the four teams announced for the Duleep Trophy, he could now find himself playing for Team D.
