India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav will miss the opening round of the Duleep Trophy 2024 which is scheduled to start on September 5 due to a hand injury he sustained last week. The stylish batter who featured in the final outing for Mumbai in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament in Coimbatore against TNCA XI had missed the last day's play of the contest due to an injury as he did not come out to bat.

 

As per PTI, Suryakumar, whose unavailability for the Duleep Trophy contest was confirmed by BCCI sources, was set to play for India C against India D at Ananthapur in the first-round clash from September 5-8. He has reported at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

 

Suryakumar was named in the India C squad led by  Ruturaj Gaikwad, who will be taking on Shreyas Iyer's India D in Anantapur. India A and India B will simultaneously play the other opening-round fixture at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

 

Earlier, Umran Malik and Mohammed Siraj were also ruled out of the opening round of the Duleep Trophy because of illness. Apart from them, Ravindra Jadeja had been withdrawn from the league. BCCI announced Navdeep Saini and Gaurav Yadav as Umran and Siraj's replacements.

 

Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed India's T20I captain after Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the shortest format of the game. Rohit announced his retirement after India won the T20 World Cup 2024.

Suryakumar Yadav recently captained team India in the T20I series against Sri Lanka where Men in Blue defeated the hosts by 3-0.
