Highlights:

Rohit Sharma was right not to opt for DRS as the ball was away from the bat.

Zak Crawley remained unbeaten at the end of Day 2's play.

After setting a target of 399, India were desperate for an early wicket in the last hour of Day 3’s play. Jasprit Bumrah who took a six-wicket haul in the first innings troubled Zak Crawley with a delivery swinging away from him. Wicketkeeper Srikar Bharat appealed straightaway but Kuldeep Yadav came running to Indian skipper Rohit Sharma almost assuring him that there was an outside edge. However, after an animated chat, Rohit opted against it and it turned out to be the right call as there was clear daylight between bat and ball.

Later, when the camera panned Rohit after the replay on the big screen, he had his thumbs with a smile on his face.

This is not the first time Kuldeep was scolded by Rohit over DRS. Last year, in the ODI World Cup 2023, Rohit got angry at Kuldeep for not opting for a review against England’s Liam Livingstone. A few months earlier in 2023, he yelled at Rohit during a clash against Australia over DRS as well.

A few overs later, Kuldeep was introduced into the attack. Crawley hit him for a six over long-on. In the next over, Ben Duckett hit him for a boundary. While Duckett lost his wicket to Ravichandran Ashwin again, Crawley and Rehan Ahmed remained unbeaten. Kuldeep bowled a total of four overs and conceded 21 runs. At the end of day’s play, England were 67/1, needing 332 more runs to win.

Earlier in the day, Kuldeep could not score a single run with the bat. He played a slog-sweep against left-arm spinner Tom Hartley but ended up getting a top-edge. Duckett took an easy catch at mid-wicket as Kuldeep departed for a five-ball duck.

In England's first innings, Kuldeep was lethal with the ball. He dismissed Duckett to break the opening partnership. Later, he got the wickets of wicketkeeper-batter Ben Foakes and Rehan Ahmed.

The 29-year-old is playing his first Test since December 2022. He walked into the side after India’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was ruled out of the second Test after sustaining a hamstring injury in the series opener at Hyderabad.
