Team India veteran pacer Mohammed Shami, who has been away from cricket since the culmination of the 2023 ODI World Cup, is set to miss more time. According to a report in The Indian Express, the 33-year-old, who has been nursing an ankle injury, is yet to resume bowling. The report further claimed that Shami will have to prove his fitness at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru before he becomes available for selection in the national team.

Mohammed Shami showcased exceptional bowling prowess during the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023, emerging as the tournament's leading wicket-taker. In his seven matches, he claimed an impressive 24 wickets, solidifying his reputation as a formidable force in the bowling department.

However, post-World Cup, Shami faced a setback due to an injury that ruled him out of the subsequent tour of South Africa. Currently, the seasoned right-arm fast bowler is grappling with an ankle issue, which is likely to extend his absence from the game. This injury poses a significant concern, not just for Shami but also for the team, considering his critical role and impact as a key player. His continued absence could be a considerable loss, especially in crucial upcoming matches where his experience and skills would have been invaluable. The cricketing community and fans alike will be keenly awaiting updates on his recovery and return to the sport.

The upcoming Test series schedule is as follows:

The opening Test match is set to take place from January 25 to 29 in Hyderabad.
