The Indian cricket team has touched down in Rajkot ahead of their third Test match in a tightly-contested five-match series against England. The crucial encounter is set to unfold at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium on February 15, with Rohit Sharma leading the Indian contingent.

Team India to stay in Sayaji Hotel

Upon their arrival, the team checked into Rajkot's Sayaji Hotel, where they will be residing from February 11th to the 19th. In a nod to the local culture, captain Rohit Sharma and key player KL Rahul have been given a suite that celebrates the Saurashtra heritage, offering the team a unique lodging experience different from the usual Western-themed accommodations they encounter globally.

Local heritage and cuisine in spotlight

Urvesh Purohit, the hotel's director, shared with AajTak in an exclusive interview that the intention behind the themed rooms is to provide a refreshing cultural change for the players. He detailed the culinary delights prepared for the team, highlighting a special breakfast on February 13 featuring local favorites such as Fafda-Jalebi, Khakhra, Gathiya, Thepla, and Khaman. Dinner will include traditional Kathiyawadi dishes like Dahi Tikari, Vagherela Rotlo (a traditional Bajra Roti sautéed with yogurt and garlic), and the much-loved Khichdi Kadhi.

Purohit noted the team's fondness for Kathiyawadi cuisine, mentioning that players like KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya have a particular liking for Khichdi-Kadhi, a sentiment shared by former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni during his visits to Rajkot.

India vs England Test series at a crucial phase

The upcoming Test from February 15 to 19 is pivotal for both teams, with the series currently locked at 1-1. This match presents an opportunity for either side to gain a vital lead. Team India is slated to start their on-field preparations on February 13, gearing up for what promises to be a compelling clash.

England, on their part, is eyeing a historic victory. They aim to be the first team to defeat India in a Test series on Indian soil in over a decade. The last time India faced such a series defeat at home was against Alastair Cook's England in the 2012/13 season, setting the stage for an intense battle in Rajkot.
