Shubman Gill made history in the first ODI against England, clocking a major milestone as the fastest Indian to do so. Despite falling just short of a century with a score of 87 off 96 balls, his performance was crucial to India's four-wicket victory in the series opener.

In the first ODI against England in Nagpur, Shubman Gill delivered a stellar performance, scoring a crucial 87 runs off 96 balls to lead India to a four-wicket victory. Chasing a target of 249, India reached the total comfortably in just 38.4 overs. Gill's innings was not only instrumental in the win but also historic, as he became the fastest Indian batsman to reach a big milestone.

Shubman Gill has set a new record, becoming the fastest Indian batsman to reach 20 fifty-plus scores in One Day Internationals. He accomplished this feat in just 48 innings, making him the first Indian to achieve this milestone in under 50 innings.

Shubman Gill's achievement surpasses the previous record held by Shreyas Iyer, who reached 20 fifty-plus scores in 50 innings. Navjot Singh Sidhu now occupies the third position, having achieved the milestone in 52 innings. Virat Kohli is fourth, reaching the mark in 56 innings, followed by KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan, who took 56 and 57 innings respectively.

Since his One Day International debut in 2019, Shubman Gill has amassed 2415 runs in 48 matches, maintaining an impressive average of 58.90. His career so far includes six centuries and fourteen half-centuries, with a personal best of 208 runs in a single ODI innings.

India's innings got off to a rocky start, finding themselves at a precarious 19 for 2. However, Shubman Gill played a pivotal role in the recovery, forging a crucial 94-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer for the third wicket. Iyer contributed a quickfire 59 runs off just 36 balls. Gill then anchored another vital stand, adding 108 runs with Axar Patel (52) for the fourth wicket. Despite missing out on a century, Gill's valuable 87 runs off 96 balls proved instrumental in India successfully chasing down the 249-run target.

Shubman Gill will now be seen in the second ODI against England which is scheduled to be played on February 9 in Cuttack.
