India got out to a fast start once more, needing 166 runs to win, but some fierce pace bowling dismissed their openers quickly. However, Tilak Varma maintained the pressure in the Powerplay, and even Suryakumar Yadav smashed a few boundaries before leaving. However, after dropping from 58/2 to 78/5, India was immediately pinned back and required some kind of partnership.
Before the tables flipped again, Varma received assistance from Washington Sundar and the two of them managed to put the hosts back in the lead. At one point, India was in danger of losing, but Tilak's crucial alliances with Ravi Bishnoi and Washington Sundar helped them prevail.
Ravi Bishnoi on his partnership with Tilak
The spinner joined an unbeaten 20-run stand with Tilak Varma that ensured India's victory. He even praised the way Tilak batted and said he is consistently performing well. He called his innings one of the best knocks in T20.
"My job was to give him (Tilak) strike and not play any unnecessary shots. Today I posted a reel on Instagram - "Why should batters have all the fun?" When the slip came in, I knew they were trying to dismiss me with leg-spin. I tried to go over covers but I got a lucky four. (On Tilak) One of the best innings in T20s," said Ravi Bishnoi after the match.
"Wickets were falling, it wasn't an easy wicket and if you look at their bowling attack, they had all the big names. He's doing this from the last 2-3 months. He got two hundred in South Africa, he's playing well in the domestic arena as well, we knew something big was coming. He's doing really big now," he added.
India won a thrilling match in Chennai thanks to a spectacular rescue by Tilak Varma. India defeated England by 2 wickets in a 166-run chase because of the left-hander's tenacious 72* from 55 balls. Tilak Varma kept his ground, batted with the tail, and helped India cross the finish line with just four balls left, while the great Indian batsmen failed by making awful strokes throughout the innings. In the series' second T20I, Varma displayed a sophisticated batting display by hitting four fours and five sixes in his innings.
In a nerve-racking chase for India, Varma showed off his amazing maturity by skillfully navigating the English bowling lineup. Tilak cut and flipped Jofra Archer for sixes early in his innings, displaying a lot of freedom in his shots. But as hitters at the other end began to fall like a deck of cards, the batter had to calm down and evaluate the situation.
Around the 16th over, Varma again destroyed Jofra Archer for a 19-run over, marking his second flourish. Arshdeep Singh, the eighth wicket in the Indian innings, attempted to be heroic by taking on Adil Rashid in the penultimate delivery of the 17th over of the match, but the hosts lost him just as it looked like India would win easily.
