Big News: England call up batter with 26.80 ODI average after 4 years as RCB player sustains hamstring injury ahead of Champions Trophy 2025

Jacob Bethell sustained a hamstring injury during first ODI of the series.

Tom Banton's last ODI appearance was in 2020. He has played just six ODIs.

Banton has been impressive in the ongoing ILT20 2025.

England Cricket Board (ECB) made one addition to their ODI squad for the third and final ODI of the series. England added 26-year-old Tom Banton has been added as cover for young all-rounder Jacob Bethell who suffered a hamstring in the ODI series opener.

"Warwickshire batting all-rounder Jacob Bethell, who featured in the first ODI defeat in Nagpur, has sustained a left hamstring injury. The injury will be assessed further when the team arrive in Ahmedabad on Monday," ECB said in a statement. 

 

 

Bethell's participation in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is in jeopardy as well. 

Banton's last ODI appearance was in August 2020 against Ireland. He scored 134 runs from five innings at an average of 26.80 including one fifty. His strike rate is 92.41.

Banton's ILT20, ODI and List A statistics

The release also mentions Banton's recent performances in the ILT20. He has scored 493 runs from 11 innings at an average of 54.77 including two centuries. He is the only batter in ILT20 history to score two centuries. He has been picked in the squad on the basis of his ability to tackle spin which has been England batters' achilles heel in the ongoing tour. 

Banton has been playing in T20 leagues around the world. He hasn't played much List A cricket. From 24 games, he has scored 658 runs at an average of 29.90 including two centuries and four fifties.
